Charles is the Senior Partner of the firm with 26 years’ experience in energy, mining, and infrastructure, as well as corporate, banking and finance law. He is also recognized as a national expert on mining law in Zambia, advising clients including First Quantum Minerals, Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, ENRC, Vale, Albidon, Blackthorn Resources, Berkley Mineral Resources, RTG Mining, and others on all aspects of their business.
He also has extensive experience in project development and project finance including rail, power and infrastructure. Charles has led deal teams on most of the major pioneering projects in Zambia and has extensive experience of negotiating the full suite of commercial and operational agreements required to operate resource projects, including joint venture agreements and offtake agreements. He has had extensive involvement in co-location projects including BOOT, PPP, and BOO transactions.
Charles also extensively writes on Mining, notably, he authored the Zambia chapter of 2018 edition Getting the Deal Through – Mining; and regularly contributes to the Official Mining in Africa Country Investment Guide.
Charles obtained an MSc in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London (SOAS), and an LLB from the University of Zambia. He is an Advocate of the Superior Courts of Zambia, a member of the International Bar Association, Law Association of Zambia and is a Chambers and Partners ranked attorney in tier 1, Legal500, IFLR1000 ranked attorney. He is also listed as an expert by Who’s Who Legal.
